about

judith asher was born in leeds, england, she emigrated to israel with her family at a young age. she is a graduate of the bezalel academy of arts & design, jerusalem and the department of visual communication at the royal college of art, london. she has received several awards, including the ministry of culture science and sport award, the american cultural association award and the international sandberg award.

the culture and linguistic fragmentation and the imperfection of the spoken language drove her to look for another kind of expression which is where she discovered illustration and the graphic image. she practices graphic dialogues in a free and untraditional manner. her work is a way of looking at the world, understanding it and being in it in a way that sheds light on the concealed and odd elements of everyday life. She has worked with various clients including unicef, the hebrew language academy, ha’aretz newspaper, hakibbutz hameuchad ltd., american committee for the weizmann institute of science, new york. Last June she presented a paper at the international conference troubled contemporary art practices in the middle east by birkbeck University of London and University of nicosia, cyprus, Photography in conflict: Israeli -Palestinian photographers showing the work of israeli and palestinian photographers and some of her own work influenced by this conflict, co-written and researched by dr ben baruch blich. she is currently working on a graphic novel addressing human stories of tension and renewal, love and loss. since 1994 she lectures in illustration and design at the bezalel academy of arts & design, jerusalem and at the holon institute of technology, holon. she lives and works on a kibbutz with her family and looks forward to her next trip to the desert.
